Summer Lifeguard Opportunity with Blind Beginnings

Blind Beginnings is hiring 2 Lifeguard/Counsellors for CNIB’s Summer Camps for children who are blind or visually impaired at Bowen Lodge by the Sea.

Job Title: Lifeguard (NLS) Counsellor

Term: Contract (June 28 – August 4)

Location: CNIB’s Bowen Lodge by the Sea, Bowen Island

Summary:

To provide a safe recreational opportunity for the guests at Bowen Lodge through creative planning and energetic implementing of all programs both at the waterfront and land programming.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

• ensure safety of guests on the water and during boating activities
• ensure that all health & safety and NLS standards are met at all times
• planning and implementing recreational programs
• assist campers during mealtimes
• provide support and leadership to volunteers and leaders in training
• participate in staff meetings and staff training
• willing to work as a team member taking on other responsibilities as need arises
• willing to work independently on some assignments
• Sensitive to the unique needs of guests who are blind or visually impaired
• Responsible for guest safety at all times
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications (Education, Training, Experience):

• experience and interest in recreation programming in a camp setting
• must provide a current police record check before first day of training
• current Standard First Aid and CPR
• current NLS certification required
• current waterfront is an asset
• ORCA certification is an asset
• Ability to work as a team
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience with children & youth who are blind or visually impaired is an asset
• Must be willing to live at Bowen Lodge when camp is in session
• Must be willing to work standard camp hours

 

Salary Range: Starting at $500 per week (includes room and board)
