We are delighted to announce that our Blind Beginnings 2020 Gala will be take place virtually on October 17th, 2020 at 7:00 pm using the Zoom Meeting Software as a platform.
The Blind Beginnings Gala has been an annual highlight since 2010, raising over $280,000 to create and deliver programs, services and counselling to support BC’s children and youth who are blind or partially sighted and their families. The event has brought together our supporters, families, and youth for a night of celebration that included great food, awards and recognition of the people who make what we do possible.
We were looking forward to another 2020 Gala in the Spring, though needless to say COVID-19 changed our plans. After many iterations of the event, when it became apparent that it wouldn’t be possible to gather together in-person in the foreseeable future, we made the difficult decision to cancel.
In addition to the impact that COVID-19 had on our fundraising, our programming was affected as well. The team at Blind Beginnings rallied during this crisis, undeterred even though many programs had to be cancelled or adapted due to social distance restrictions while new programs were implemented that could be carried out online. We’ve now done the same with our Blind Beginnings 2020 Gala, pivoting from an in-person celebration to a virtual one.
The theme of this year’s Gala is Harvesting Hope – a theme we felt was especially fitting and important this year. After all, hope is what has always seen us through difficult and trying times throughout history, and in the year 2020, it’s no different.
Join us for night of virtual fun with Celebrity MC Arran Henn and a host of interactive activities such as a 50/50 Draw, a Silent Auction, a Raffle, musical performances, a Fireside Chat with Executive Director Shawn Marsolais, a speech from one of our Program participants, an introductory and interactive wine tasting segment entitled “How to Taste Wine”, and much more!
We hope that everyone is staying safe. We hope things will return to normal soon. We hope we can continue our work of inspiring and supporting BC youth that are blind or partially sighted and their families for many years to come. And we hope that you will join us on October 17th to help us harvest and share in the bounty of hope that we have all generated together this past year.
