Blind Beginnings Virtual Camp 2021 – Teens Schedule

Our Camp Teens Events (open to ages 13 – 19 years) are held at 1:00 PM PST – 4:00 PM PST Monday August 16th – Friday August 20th. When you register for the week’s events, you are also eligible to attend the Evening Family Fun Activities, which take place each evening at 6:45 PM – 8:45 PM PST.

Monday

Let’s get crafty and make Bath Fizzies with Megan!

Megan’s business, EmpowerCare, sells a variety of cosmetic products that are hand-made with natural ingredients. The focus is to move you towards, or help you maintain, a healthy active lifestyle. You’ll learn the process of crafting your own fizzies, so you can enjoy them any time. End results may vary, but we can promise you this journey will be filled with awesome science, cool chemical reactions, some meteorology, a bit of aromatherapy, more than a couple laughs, and of course, lots of fun.
For registration: Please choose from the following scents: vanilla, peppermint, orange. You will also need a muffin tin to make your Bath Fizzies!

Disney Music Bingo with Emily

Be our guest, let it go, and be prepared to go the distance (and if you got all those references, you are totally ready to play!).  Listen for songs, mark off your favourites and get ready to yell BINGO!

Tuesday

Harmony Yoga

Two teen girls smile as they work to keep sticks balanced between the palms of each other hands in a classic yoga pose.On Tuesday we will be joined by Jennie Abbot from Harmony Kids Yoga! She’ll be joining us to show how mindfulness, movement, relaxation and breathing is a simple, fun part of everyday life! Get ready to move, have lots of laughs and learn a little something about yoga! This program is inspired by teens and will give all a chance to move, dance, explore and grow! We will also be making breathing sticks which we will use throughout the morning together and is something you can take away and have forever! Come get harmonic with us!

Audio Described Movie Night

We can’t wait to come together for an audio described movie on this warm night in August! What will the movie be, you may wonder? Well you’ll have to join us to find out!

Wednesday

Getting the Skinny on Skincare

Her face is covered with a facial skincare mask.To learn the basics of skin care to enhance your skin health and natural beauty! We will be joined by Anu Pala and Alisha Pala! Anu is a certified life coach, trainer, and vocational consultant. After losing her vision in 1991, she has not allowed this to define her, but rather use it to fuel her towards meaningful work-to inspire, motivate and empower others to maximize their potential and opportunities! Alisha Pala is a permanent Make-Up Artist, Body Spa Technician and Aesthetician. We invite you to come along this journey to learn about various skin types, skin care practices and the benefits of taking care of your skin! For this workshop, Anu and Alisha will need a photo of yourself to identify your skin tone for the products being mailed to you! They also ask that you have your camera on during the program so they can assist you along the way!

CNIB Summer Talent Show
A marquee which is circled by lights and has a red stage curtain behind it reads "Talent Show".Come Join us for a classic Talent Show on Zoom! Share your talent with our camp community! Those who want to perform are to email emily.mcfarlane@cnib.ca by Wednesday August 11th and share the following:

  • What talent you will be performing live
  • Any recordings you want shared in lieu of performing live
  • A 1-2 sentence introduction of yourself for the host to share before you perform Example: “Emily has been making dinosaur sounds for the last 12 years and is so excited to share that talent with you tonight!”

 

Thursday

Improv with Dougie Cane!

Our facilitator Dougie has been visually impaired since birth, and shares a vision diagnosis of congenital nystagmus with their older sister. Dougie has been gifted with lived experiences that tested their resiliency beyond vision loss and will be showing us a thing or two about improv! In this workshop we will learn the basics of how to improvise with each other. Dougie will lead us through exercises to work on activating our brain, learn from each other and move through the virtual space! This afternoon will be filled with laughs, stories and fun! Youth should wear comfortable clothing and have a water bottle even on Zoom!

Game Show Night
The words "Game Show Night" are lit up by flashy bright colors.Are you smarter than a fifth grader? What is… Jeopardy? Led by some incredible youth leaders, this game show evening will feature quizzes, tests, trivia and more! Get ready for lots of laughs, a little competition and let’s learn something new!

Friday

Harry Potter Escape Room

Two young people dressed in wizarding robes and wearing Harry Potter glasses work together to try to find their way out of what looks to be a library.Ever wanted to spend your afternoon in the Harry Potter universe? Join us on Friday afternoon as we transport to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! We will be led by two Youth Mentors, Ishita and Clement who will be helping us navigate through an exciting Harry Potter escape room. We will then put your storytelling skills to the test with Harry Potter MadLibs and discover how much you know about the wizarding world with some Harry Potter trivia!

Campfire Sing-A-Long
A small campfire burns brightly as a darkened line of trees extend into the distance and a bright orange sun sinks into the horizon.Join us virtually or in person for an evening we’ve all been waiting for. We look forward to welcoming our community to a campfire sing-a-long to sing all of our favourite campfire songs we’ve all been missing! This evening we will connect families all over the province. In person we will come together on Dea’s Island in Metro Vancouver. For our families who are outside the Lower Mainland or that can’t join in person, we invite you to gather by the fire with us virtually over Zoom!

Registration allows you to attend all the events listed.

When registering, please include the following information:

  • Name of participant
  • Siblings are welcome to join! Please provide the names and ages of any siblings that will be attending
  • A completed Photo Release Form – Word Document (alternate formats are available if needed)
  • Email address to send the Zoom Links to
  • Mailing address -we will be sending certain materials and camp goodies along to all participants!
  • Emergency Contact Number
