Exploring Work Series

The Blind Beginnings Exploring Work series consists of interviews with various working professionals who are blind or partially sighted. Executive Director of Blind Beginnings and Limitless Podcast host Shawn Marsolais asks about challenges, training, education and accommodations in their jobs during the interview. Our goal with the Exploring Work series is to educate parents, youth, and the general public about the experiences, successes, and challenges that professionals who are blind or partially sighted have had in their respective careers.

Episode 8 – Manager of Technology Programs

This very exciting episode of our Exploring Work Series features Craig, who works as the Manager of Technology Programs for CNIB. Craig shares his very exciting story of being an entrepreneur as a teenager before embarking on his career as well as how he found his way to his current position at CNIB and what exactly he does as Manager of Technology Programs.

Episode 7 – Career Advisor

This episode of our Exploring Work Series features Cherise, who works as a Career Advisor for a School District. She discusses what a Career Advisor does, what made her choose her career, what kind of education it required, what kind of adaptations she uses in her workplace, and some of the challenges that she has had to overcome in her career.

Episode 6 – Project Manager / Taxpayers Services Agent

This episode of our Exploring Work Series is a double shot as we welcome two guests – Angell and Patricia. Angell works for Canada Revenue Agency as a bilingual Taxpayer Services Agent while Patricia is a Project Manager at HSBC Canada. Both tell us about their respective jobs, what made them choose their careers, the education it required and about any challenges that they may have had to overcome.

This episode of our Exploring Work Series features Shawna, who works as an Occupational Therapist. She explains what being an Occupational Therapist means, what she does in her job, what made her choose her career, what kind of education it required, and what kind of adaptations are required in her workplace.

This episode of our Exploring Work Series features Courtney who works as a Recreation Therapist. She tells us what her job is like and what she does on a daily basis, what made her choose her career, what kind of education it required, and what kind of adaptations are required in her workplace.

Episode 3 – IT and Identity Administrator / Senior Software Developer

This episode of our Exploring Work Series features Shawn and Gail, a married couple who are both partially sighted. Shawn works for the City of Vancouver as an IT and Identity Administrator while Gail is a Senior Software Developer at Scientific Games Digital. They describe how they chose their respective careers, what training, education, and accommodations were required for their jobs, and any challenges they have had to overcome.
