Harvesting Hope Online Gala
Saturday October 17, 2020
This year’s Blind Beginnings Harvesting Hope Online Gala was an incredible night, with over 150 people gathering online to celebrate our successes over the past year and to raise funds for our ongoing programs that change the lives of children and youth who are blind or partially sighted. It was our first attempt at an online Gala (thanks to COVID-19), and while we were nervous about the prospect of an untried event like this, with the support of many volunteers and our friends at Descriptive Video Works (who graciously donated their time and their studio for the night) it came off without a hitch and was a huge success! We had guests from all over the province, some of whom dressed up in formal Gala Wear while others were able to attend in their pajamas!
Everyone enjoyed a wide variety of entertainment, from an incredible video about the work we do at Blind Beginnings from our friends at Accessible Media Inc, to several musical performances, including one from Loverboy’s Mike Reno and his lovely duet partner Catherine St. Germain. We even had a virtual wine tasting lesson that saw many a wine glass drained while we learned! All the while, there were door prizes, a Silent Auction, a Raffle, and a huge cash prize from our 50/50 Draw that paid out $1585.00!
While we are still calculating the total amount raised for the evening, we are beyond thrilled to announce that the total currently sits at a whopping $33,000! To everyone who volunteered, attended, donated, or even just bought a Silent Auction item or tickets to the Raffle or 50/50 Draw, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you. The funds raised will help us continue our mission of inspiring and supporting youth who are blind or partially sighted and their families all over British Columbia. We are looking forward to next year’s Gala already!
