Next Online Parent Group topic is arming yourself for the unexpected!
As we approach the holidays, you will likely be encountering more people than usual. Extended family and friends you haven’t seen in a while, and/or strangers in the malls and grocery stores. Friends and family will likely have questions about how things are going with your child who is visually impaired. They might offer unwanted advice or talk at length about their child who does not have a vision impairment. Strangers might catch you off guard with unhelpful comments or questions. Do you feel prepared to respond to these unexpected interactions? Join us on Thursday December 12 and let’s share strategies for arming yourself for the unexpected.
When: Thursday December 12
Time: 1:00 – 2:30 PM
Who: Parents of children who are blind or partially sighted living in BC
How: We use Zoom Conferencing to connect, and its really easy I promise. You will be sent a link to join the meeting, and you just have to click on the link and you will be placed in the online meeting room. You can connect from your computer, smart phone or tablet, or dial-in from your phone if that is preferred.
Note: It is a long-distance number within Canada for those who choose to dial in.
Shawn Marsolais, registered clinical counselor, will be online to facilitate the group, introduce parents to each other, share some information about the topic, answer questions, and offer support.
How do you register you ask?
Just send Shawn an email at: firstname.lastname@example.org and request the link to join the next meeting.
This online parent group meets the second Thursday of every month. Parents who are raising children who are blind or partially sighted are invited to ask questions, share successes, seek advice, and connect with other parents who are also raising a child with a visual impairment. The predetermined topic is designed to start the conversation, but there will also be plenty of time for parents to talk about whatever they need to.
If you have any questions about these groups, or any other Blind Beginnings program, please feel free to contact Shawn at 604-434-7243, or toll free 1-866-736-8620.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
