We Don’t See Limitations.
We See Limitless Potential.

At Blind Beginnings, we see the enormous possibilities in children and youth who are blind or partially sighted and we passionately challenge ANY perspectives that limit what they’re capable of or achieving.

No other organization in BC offers the range of programs that we do. We provide services for ages birth to 19 and incorporate programs and support for the whole family, because we recognize that blindness impacts parents and siblings too.

We provide counseling and peer support for parents, so they learn how to best support their child.

We offer youth a variety of programs and support to help them build their skills and confidence, including independent living skills, employment preparation, and support groups.

Our Mission

Our mission is to inspire children and youth who are blind or partially sighted and their families, providing diverse programs, experiences, counselling, peer support and opportunities for them to create fulfilling lives.

Our Values

Build a diverse and inclusive community in which we value and respect all abilities, lead by example, empower through growth and learning, challenge the limits of possibility, and adapt and persevere.

Our Vision

Our vision includes a world where seeing things differently inspires limitless possibilities.

Did you know…

Children who are blind or partially sighted often have unnecessary limits placed on them by their teachers, families and society.

As a result, these children grow to underestimate their own abilities, which can substantially impact their adult life—the national average unemployment rate for adults who are blind is 70 percent.

Our goal is to change people’s perceptions of what it means to be blind and to empower children and youth who are blind to live independent and self-sufficient lives.

Theory of Change

Our theory of change requires parents, children, teachers, and society to adopt a positive perspective of blindness. When this happens, children and youth who are blind or partially sighted will live a more fulfilling life. Blind Beginnings, through its programs and services, is working toward a world where seeing things differently inspires limitless possibilities, where children can reach their potential without being held back by perceived limitations.
