This camp was a way for me to connect with other people who have similar if not worse and some better conditions than myself, I was able to learn and understand the blind community better and also make connections with people and feel a part of the community.

Camp Limitless

Outdoor Adventures for Blind and Partially Sighted Youth & Families

Our Summer Camp Program, dubbed “Camp Limitless”, offers children and youth who are blind or partially sighted opportunities to challenge personal limits, develop new skills and increase self-confidence at this outdoor adventure camp.

Camp Limitless is Blind Beginnings’ annual summer camp, offering transformative outdoor adventure experiences for children and youth who are blind or partially sighted, from birth to age 20, along with their families. At Camp Limitless, participants gain opportunities to challenge personal limits, develop new skills, and significantly increase self-confidence in a unique, supportive environment.

Why Camp Limitless Matters

Many children who are blind or partially sighted often face unnecessary limits imposed by teachers, society, and even well-meaning families, who might over-protect them or not know how to adapt activities for non-visual learning. This often leads to them underestimating their own abilities, being hesitant to try new experiences, and potentially feeling left out of group activities, which can foster feelings of loneliness and isolation. Furthermore, without sufficient physical education, these children may not develop crucial gross and fine motor skills necessary for fitness, wellness, and independent living.

Camp Limitless directly addresses these challenges by providing a dedicated space where every activity is adapted, ensuring everyone is on an even playing field regardless of vision level. As one long-time attendee expressed, it's a place where "being blind did not stop me from rock climbing, kayaking, or doing any other activity that able-bodied kids could do at Summer Camp".

At Camp Limitless our objectives are to

  • Create confidence

  • Increase independence

  • Raise expectations

  • Build crucial peer support networks

I loved it. It was nice to see my kids be challenged in ways they aren’t at home and to conquer their fears and see their potential.
