We’re writing a Children’s Book and we need your help!
For Youth ages 10 - 18
This summer, youth ages 10 to 18 who are blind or partially sighted are invited to join Blind Beginnings and emerging writer (and awesome youth alum!) Jinnie Saran to help us create something truly special—a children’s picture book for preschoolers who are blind!
From brainstorming wild ideas to building lovable characters, drafting storylines, and polishing final pages, you’ll be part of every step in bringing this book to life. Not only will you sharpen your writing skills through fun and interactive exercises, but you’ll also get the inside scoop on the writing and publishing world through guest-led workshops and creative discussions. We want to write a book that will not only engage and entertain children from years to come, but also be produced by those with the blind or partially sighted lived experience - so your participation is crucial!
And the best part? Once it’s finished, your story will live on in our Early Intervention Playroom, where little ones who are blind can enjoy it for years to come!
Even if you’re not a writer and just want to help generate ideas and characters or share your own stories, we want your help!
When: Tuesday afternoons, July 8 – August 13
Time: 3:30 – 5:00 PM (PST)
Where: Online, Blind Beginnings Zoom Room
