For Kids ages 5 - 12 + Siblings
Junior Explorers’ Club is a monthly group that meets for fun activities and hands-on experiences that provide children who are blind and low vision with opportunities to develop social, creative, cognitive, coordination and self-orientation skills and techniques. Children and siblings who participate in this program build self-confidence, become more independent, participate in a greater range of activities, and develop friendships with other children experiencing similar life circumstances, thus reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness.
Over the course of 9 years from 2009 to 2017, this program was offered in Burnaby, Surrey, Duncan, and Chilliwack. Children who are blind/low vision 5 to 12 years of age and their sighted siblings gathered monthly to do fun activities, learn some blindness skills, and make new friends.
Junior Explorers’ Club (JEC) is developed and delivered by Blind Beginnings’ staff and volunteers, including qualified Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVIs) and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS).
We are so excited to be bringing this drop-in program back this January at our office in Vancouver!
January Activity:
Scratch, Squish, Splat! Tactile Exploration Skills for Everyone!
Get ready to explore with your hands! Children will dive into playful games and creative crafts that encourage touching, feeling, and discovering. This session celebrates how touch helps us learn about the world in fun and surprising ways.
All participants must be members of Blind Beginnings.
